Today the school had a special visit from the poet, Neal Zetter. We began the morning with a whole school assembly in which Neal read a selection of his poems. He made everyone laugh with his excellent poems, including lots about insects… You can read one of Neal’s poems, I’m a bee, at the bottom of this post.

I’m a bee by Neal Zetter

I’m a bee
Buzzing round your head
Hear my sound all around
Like a very long zed
I’m not an A or a C
Or a D or an E
‘Cause I’m a bee
I’m a bee
I’m a bee, bee, bee

I’m a bee
I’m a bee
Coloured yellow and black
I’ve got wings and a sting
So I might attack
My queen is the one
Who’s a mum to me
I’m a bee
I’m a bee
I’m a bee, bee, bee

I’m a bee
I’m a bee
So loving that honey
Sit for hours on the flowers
In the summer when it’s sunny
In my hive I survive
High up in a tree
I’m a bee
I’m a bee
I’m a bee, bee, bee

I’m a bee
I’m a bee
Buzzing round your head
Hear my sound all around
Like a very long zed
I’m not an A or a C
Or a D or an E
I’m a bee
I’m a bee
I’m a bee, bee, bee

I’m a bee
I’m a bee
I’m a bee, bee, bee

  1. I had a great day today with you all – children and teaching staff too. So thanks so much for making me feel so welcome, enjoying my poetry and being such good poets yourself! Have wonderful summers and maybe we’ll see each other next year too, Neal 🙂
